Current and potential members of the Wilds Cooperative of PA met at Lycoming Arts in Williamsport on Tuesday, April 29 for the first of two WCO Membership Meetings in 2025. These meetings are held twice a year, typically with the spring meeting on the eastern side of the Pennsylvania Wilds region and the fall meeting on the western side, giving as many Wilds Cooperative (WCO) members as possible the chance to attend. The Kellettville Campground in Tionesta will host the fall WCO Membership Meeting on September 23, 2025.

As a child, the Pennsylvania woods were Aubrey Fornwalt’s playground and the stream was her pool. After a life change in 2016 led her back to her childhood home in Lycoming County, Fornwalt took a risk and bought some black soldier flies for a composting business, taking inspiration from the woods and insects she loved as a child. Two years later, it grew into what would become Full Circle Bioconversion, based in the city of Williamsport in the Pine Creek Valley and PA Grand Canyon landscape and I-80 Frontier landscape of the Pennsylvania Wilds region.

Steven L. Getz, a Clinton County native located in the I-80 Frontier landscape of the PA Wilds region, has been immersed in the arts for most of his life and has found himself working in just about every medium one can think of. Jared and Mallory Griebel began home brewing for weddings and competitions, but something else was also brewing… their dream to start their own company. With help from their families and a lot of hard work and dedication, Lost in the Wilds Brewing went from being a dream to a reality. Jared and Mallory grew up together, and they decided to put down roots in the I-80 Frontier, Cook Forest and the Ancients Landscapes of the PA Wilds region for both their home and business.

Little did Stacie Johnson-Leske know that wandering into a pottery shop in Richmond, Virginia, would change her life for the better. It sparked an interest in her, and she wanted to take lessons after seeing them advertised at the shop. She was given several lessons as a gift, and her love for pottery developed then and there. Over twenty years later, Johnson-Leske has made a business out of the pottery she fell in love with.

Most of us remember catching fireflies in our backyard during our childhood, or perhaps lying on our backs on the soft green grass, watching them light up the night. Their soft, magical glow could be seen in the darkest of nights. In recent years, fireflies have become threatened by factors such as pesticides, light pollution, and habitat loss. Efforts have been made, and are still being made, to keep them from becoming endangered or even extinct. One couple helping with those efforts, Ken and Peggy Butler, have started a firefly sanctuary, right here in the Pennsylvania Wilds. Located in the Allegheny National Forest and Surrounds landscape of the PA Wilds region, in Kellettville, PA, is Kellettville Firefly Farm. It features whole-house lodging, as well as a cabin and safari glamping tent that can both be rented.
