Steve Getz: Building mastery across many crafts

Steven L. Getz, a Clinton County native located in the I-80 Frontier landscape of the PA Wilds region, has been immersed in the arts for most of his life and has found himself working in just about every medium one can think of. However, the adventure of finding new methods of expression never tires him.

His fine art journey that began at Lycoming College in the mid-seventies led to over 30 years of commercial art employment. Today, Getz sees his experiences as a true bonus to his craft, as he was able to develop the discipline of a commercial artist and later apply it to his fine art.

Over the years, Getz has worked in various mediums of art, including everything from oil on canvas, to digital paintings, using current technology. He is always looking to challenge his creative self, and is ever evolving. Getz has many artistic specialties including extensive work in fine art, graphic design, licensing, product development, marketing and others.

Getz was selected for the prestigious “PA Wilds Artisan of the Year” award in 2016. More recently in May 2025, Getz was inducted to the Keystone Central Foundation Hall of Fame, adding another addition to his growing list of accomplishments of his career.

Getz’s artwork can be found in both private and public collections, and galleries throughout the region. A few of the places you can view his work is The Station Gallery in Lock Haven, Susquehanna Gallery & Frame Shop in Jersey Shore, Gold Leaf Frame Shop in Williamsport, Cameron County Artisan Center in Emporium, The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro, Art Space in Bloomsburg, The Thomas Taber Museum in Williamsport and The Bellefonte Museum of Art in Bellefonte.

Getz has worked with many widely known artists including George Lucas, Pee Wee Herman, Stan Lee, Jim Henson, Lisa Frank, and many others. His work with licensing has generated millions of dollars in company revenues worldwide. He has been a contributor to many of the pop culture brands we still see today.

Aside from his work in his professional career, Getz is actively involved in his community including serving on the Veterans Park Committee and he even designed the new Clinton County Veterans Park, which opened in 2024. He is on various other committees as well including, the Clinton County Tourism Advisory Board, Summer Concert Series committee and he is the current Clinton County Arts Council President, which is located in The Station Gallery.

The mission of the Station Gallery is to promote, develop and support the arts and artisans of Clinton County, located in the PA Wilds. The Station Gallery is also a member of the PA Wilds Cooperative. The Gallery features exhibits, as well as workshops for all ages. The exhibits last roughly 3-5 weeks, run throughout the year, and there is something for everyone. Some are invitational, while others are on an open call basis, allowing the public to send in their entries. Getz has his own studio located in Swissdale, right outside of Lock Haven.

Throughout his life, Getz has entwined himself in the arts and fostered a sense of art within his local community.
