Who hasn’t heard of Punxsutawney, and its famous groundhog Phil? February 2, Groundhog Day, brings 15 to 25,000 people to this quaint little town located along the I-80 Frontier of the Pennsylvania Wilds.
Although Groundhog Day is managed by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle, the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce embraces it and helps make connections among local festivities, businesses and visitors. Schedules and events entwined with this spectacular event are developed and supported by the Chamber for Groundhog Day, and also throughout the year.
For 50 years, this Chamber of Commerce has been promoting the town of 5000+ residents and aiding in creating local commerce opportunities. Local businesses and organizations can join the Punxsutawney Chamber. Or visit the Chamber’s Souvenir Shop, where you can get information and find a variety of Punxsutawney and Groundhog themed merchandise.
Throughout the year, the Chamber supports various other activities, including the American Heroes Banner Project to honor the past and present men and women of the United States Military, the Festival in the Park – an annual event held on the week of the Fourth of July, a brew fest, a Christmas parade, Gobbler’s Knob Wine Fest and more.
Be sure to pick up a map of the Phantastic Phils, a series of life-size sculptures that you can visit throughout the town. Painted by local artist Kelly Porada, “Phillage” was the first to make its debut on Groundhog Day 2004. It was sponsored by the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club and is the only statue to feature Phil with the traditional tuxedo and top hat worn by the caretakers of Punxsutawney Phil.
Punxsutawney has been celebrating Groundhog Day for many years. However, if you can’t make it for the main event, thanks to the Chamber of Commerce, it has lots to offer visitors all year long.

- Full Circle Bioconversion LLC: Turning food waste into a business
As a child, the Pennsylvania woods were Aubrey Fornwalt’s playground and the stream was her pool. After a life change in 2016 led her back to her childhood home in Lycoming County, Fornwalt took a risk and bought some black soldier flies for a composting business, taking inspiration from the woods and insects she loved as a child. Two years later, it grew into what would become Full Circle Bioconversion, based in the city of Williamsport in the Pine Creek Valley and PA Grand Canyon landscape and I-80 Frontier landscape of the Pennsylvania Wilds region. - Blackbird Distillery: Making shine and making friends
Not too many businesses can say they create their product completely from start to finish, but the folks at Blackbird Distillery can! Located in Brookville along the I-80 Frontier landscape and the Cook Forest and the Ancients landscape within the Pennsylvania Wilds, Blackbird Distillery is a one-of-a-kind place that takes pride in showing visitors the magic of how their product is made. - Judy Schrader: Creating small, but very mighty art
Judy Schrader’s love for art began when she was just a child, and it soon grew into a lifetime of creation. Based in Warren County in the Allegheny National Forest and Surrounds landscape of the Pennsylvania Wilds, her art has ranged from boundless wilderness scenes to miniature details of the wonders of nature.
