Potter County | Dark Skies Landscape of the PA Wilds

Curt Weinhold’s photography is like a personal invitation to come see the beauty of the PA Wilds for yourself. Located in the Dark Skies Landscape of the PA Wilds, his images showcase the region’s starry skies, waterfalls, wildflowers, wildlife, forests and mountain landscapes.

Though Weinhold has photographed scenes and people around the world, he feels that the best scenes are found in his own backyard in Potter County. He is best known for his nightscape photography, and living near an internationally certified Dark Sky Park, Cherry Springs State Park, definitely gives him an advantage. His personal mission to increase awareness and appreciation of this dark sky area led him to get Route 44, which leads to Cherry Springs State Park, officially designated as “The Highway to the Stars.”

For those interested in developing photography skills, Weinhold offers classes through the Potter County Education Council and the Potter County Artisan Center in Coudersport, PA. He also leads Nightscape Photography Workshops at Cherry Springs State Park, providing hands-on instruction in capturing the night sky.

Weinhold’s guiding philosophy, “We need to love things to preserve them,” reflects the spirit of conservation and appreciation found throughout the PA Wilds. His work continues to inspire visitors and residents alike to explore, admire and protect the region’s natural treasures.
