Unique PA Wilds Lodging: Stay in a Restored Train Caboose

If you’re looking for a unique lodging experience in the Pennsylvania Wilds between May and October, be sure you consider an overnight stay in a restored 1942 train caboose!

The caboose, one of the historic properties managed by the Clinton County Historical Society, sleeps 2 and is equipped with a sink, a small bathroom and kitchen, and air conditioning.  

The region’s railroading history comes roaring back to life at the property. The caboose is adjacent to the old Castanea Railroad Station that was constructed in 1883. By 1895, roughly 6,000 railroad cars passed through the station each week, many of which transported coal, as well as lumber and other products.

Today, travelers can reflect on the impact railroads had on rural Pennsylvania while spending the night in a caboose on the same property.

Near the caboose is an informational kiosk and a trail head for the new Bald Eagle Valley Trail. A restaurant is within walking distance and there are plenty of sites to see – including breathtaking landscapes, historical assets and more!

Conveniently located at 15 Logan Ave., Castanea, in the I-80 Frontier of the Pennsylvania Wilds, the caboose is just a few miles outside of Lock Haven, a community situated along the West Branch Susquehanna River.
